Mrs. Benton Honored at School Board Meeting

Mrs. Angie Benton was recently celebrated at the November School Board meeting for receiving a "Whatever It Takes" Award! We are definitely #GreenbrierProud for having this amazing lady on our staff and working so hard to support students, staff, and families! Here Is what was said about Mrs. Benton:

Mrs. Angie Benton leads our teachers and staff in meeting the diverse needs of students beyond the classroom. The teaching and learning she brings to our school is certainly essential, and has led to a positive climate and culture for our students for the last five years. Last summer, rather than being frustrated with the mask policy that began our school year, she wanted to ensure students still had a pathway to their teachers' smiles. She took pictures and created buttons for every staff member in the building to wear so students could see their entire face! In addition to her regular social emotional PROWL group four days per week, she led a kindergarten intervention group on Fridays. She helped students with phonological awareness and orthographic mapping. She did all this without a classroom of her own! This summer, Mrs. Benton has worked tirelessly to ensure food deliveries are taken care of and is consistently reaching out to families each week to check on students and situations. She has stayed in contact with a family of a student headed to GMS to make sure a Counseling Associates referral is completed, going above and beyond to fight for that student's heart. Her learning with Dr. Ruby Payne and Emotional Poverty training this summer will enrich teachers' understanding of student needs and benefit every child in our building and district! She embodies the vision at Springhill to build strong HEARTS and strong MINDS!
