It isn’t uncommon for Jr. High and High School students to explore careers as they prepare for their post-secondary phase. However, community and career education begins much earlier! Students in kindergarten are prompted to consider the various individuals and organizations within their community that serve those that live there. Students are often insterested to find out that PEOPLE are behind all the wonderful aspects of a community that make it great! Over the last week, kindergartners learned about police officers, firefighters, chefs, hair stylists, teachers, nurses, doctors, dentists, military personnel, and much more! On Friday, many students arrived to school dressed as a “community helper” that inspired them over the last few weeks of learning. Who is to say that their costume doesn’t re-emerge as a career for them later on?
