Greenbrier School District is focusing on social emotional learning more than ever this year. Counselors have met over the summer and aligned curriculum focuses with CASEL standards, as well as needs specific here in Greenbrier amongst our students. While adopting standards for academic content is nothing new, Greenbrier has gone a step further by adopting a social emotional curriculum and standards as well.
Building strong hearts is not a new concept here at Springhill. While this has been a part of our school’s vision for years, this year we are going even further. Mrs. Benton met with students during PROWL on the very first week and will continue to hold a PROWL group each week through the year to focus on social emotional health and wellbeing. Her work started with the staff over the summer, in addition to behavior training from Easterseals Arkansas, which also focused on emotional needs resulting in behavioral issues.
As a staff, we are going to continue to work to meet the emotional needs of all students. It is our hope that by being more intentional than ever before, we can reach students during this unprecedented time and provide social interventions that will allow them to continue to grow and shine through any circumstances.
