What is a champion?

Last week, as teachers and staff spent time reconnecting at our annual building retreat, this question came up: what is a champion? What qualities will our students have when they are champions? Finally, how will we get them there?Team-building during opening ceremonies Teachers revisited our vision for building strong hearts and strong minds, in addition to looking back at the collective promises they made to each other last summer. Mrs. Crymes sharing her team's heartprintTo help guide them towards building champions this year, they created new heart prints to represent their new promises to each other.

Our community partners enriched the experience by providing input while we revisited our core beliefs and mission. Andrew Watson, founder of Soaring Wings Ranch, and Dr. Nadelson from the University of Central Arkansas, as well as parents, provided their perspectives and experience.

Teachers were treated to breakfast and lunch both days from Chick Fil A, Amigos Locos and Laddie Daddy’s Hillbilly Kitchen. Springhill Olympics officially began with skiing, which brought out the more competitive side of our staff and brought lots of laughs! Teachers learned more about incorporating STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math) into all classes and were excited to try out the balloon cars they built! Day one wrapped up with a fun evening enjoying games and good food at Dave and Busters in Little Rock. Day two included teachers leading break-out sessions on math, literacy, and science.

We are so excited to see our students back in the building and begin the work of building champions!
