"Food for Thought"

3rd graders were really standing out today in math with Mrs. Hillis. She gave them some “food for thought” by using graham crackers to discuss area and perimeter. Students had to decide if the graham cracker represented area, perimeter, or both. Students had a chance to discuss at their tables first before they had to make their decision. The discussions happening were amazing. Students were sharing their thoughts, questioning others, and then defending their thoughts. 
Students were also using their knowledge of Greek and Latin roots to help them with their math skills and vocabulary.
