Mrs. Freeman was making learning fun this week with her fifth graders!
Students kept hearing an alarm go off ... two classes thought it was in the backpacks and finally found the mysterious box on the shelf. One class thought is was a sound from the smart board, but eventually found it on a shelf below the smart board. Students used an article on spy communication techniques to break their lock. Each table group had the same article with different clues for a specific lock. The box held a coded letter that had been intercepted during the Revolutionary War and a printout of a computer keyboard.
Day 2: During the second activity students had to decode the letter in the box. They were competing in table groups to be the first group to decode the entire letter for a prize. They were so competitive using testing screens to keep others from seeing their ideas on the mystery code!!
